Marc

****

Hi all,

I’ve heard last week on my favorite forum on Earth (yes, it’s the one from my favorite band in the world, The Jayhawks) that 3 tracks were up for a great pre-listening session on a misterious website, that I’m sending right at you when you finish reading those 15 lines to understand a little bit more about the context.

Mark Olson and Gary Louris are the 2 former leaders from the notorious band called the Jayhawks. You don’t know them? Ah, then you don’t know anything about the good American modern Alt-country. Country rock, and as Jeff Tweedy (Wilco’s leader) would say: C-ock. This band was playing country rock in bars in Mineapolis when Prince was wearing ridiculous underwear on the TV (they’re from the same city). OK, the guy in underwears is famous now. But Gary is not an « attractive » guy.

More than 10 years after splitting up, the 2 former leaders come back with an album called « Are you Ready for the Flood ». You have 3 songs on this website for your listening pleasure. Those 3 songs remind me of some 60s and 70s performers. The Flying Burrito Brothers, Gram Parsons,… A great feel of ease and comfort. And the vocals are amazing!

I can only recommend you take a listen to those 3 songs. If you like them, then revert to the Jayhawks if you don’t know them already. You’ll discover an amazing band. And if you want some more, check out the bands that were labelled as being « No Depression »: Uncle Tupelo, Wilco, Son Volt, Whiskeytown,… (I’ll stop here!)

Enjoy!

Marc
